Cafe under new ownership

Moat & Turret Cafe by the Castle Nunney

Moat & Turret ‘Cafe by the Castle’ in Castle Street has new owners, after Jane and Graham Harvey decided it had “just become a little too big” for them.

Jane and Graham had been running the cafe since 2016. The couple met and married 22 years ago.

They were both working in tennis at the time, officiating as chair umpires and working at the Grand Slams, ATP, WTA and ITF events around the country and the world.

Jane was one of the first professional umpires to be hired fulltime by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

She umpired 5 Wimbledon singles finals and numerous others finals at Grand Slams events and also umpired 4 Gold medal finals at 4 separate Summer Olympics.

Jane was also technical operations manager for the 2012 London Olympics to the tennis event held at Wimbledon.

“My grandparents moved in 1938 to what was and still is the family farm in Chilthorne Domer, a few miles from Yeovil,” Graham added.

“It’s almost unbelievable, but in the same year – or very soon after their departure – Jane’s great uncle Alan moved in to Bellevue Farm and stayed there until the 1950s.”

Only last year Moat & Turret ‘Cafe by the Castle’ was shortlisted in the category Best Newcomer of the Year at the 2017 Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards.

Now a notice on the closed door reads:

Our lovely little cafe has just become a little too big for us!

Therefore, now is the right time to pass it on to Paul & Kelly whom we know will make it even bigger and better.

Thank you to all our loyal customers for your support.

We will miss you.

Kelly and Paul Swift said: “We are really excited to be coming to the Moat and Turret!! We are hoping to open on Wednesday next week.

“There have been some unexpected delays in us being able to take over but we can’t wait to begin.”

“Thanks so much to Graham and Jane who have done a fabulous job with the place. Looking forward to meeting you all.”
