A new footbridge will be installed between Church Street and Castle Street in January, Somerset County Council has confirmed.
The replacement of the old footbridge has taken a long time as a result of mistakes in road closure applications and changes in the budget, which resulted in the tendering process having to be restarted.
This had an impact for residents and visitors, particular stopping the usual flow of people at Nunney Fayre for two years running.
Works will now start on 7 January 2019 and will take between 4-6 weeks to complete.
The Highways Group at Somerset County Council promises that disruption will be kept to a minimum. But there will be a closure around the immediate bridge area.
A secure compound will be established along Castle Street which will restrict parking during the project.
The contractor has written to all landowners and residents this will affect. Access by car and on foot will be maintained throughout, including to Nunney Castle itself.
