A distant relative of the composer Felix Mendelssohn, John Nigel Mendelssohn was married to Noelle for 61 years. He was the father of Gillian and James, guardian of Philippa and proud grandfather of Ben, Edward, Tim and Kate.
He will be remembered in Nunney as a kind, warm-hearted and community-spirited man, who could often be seen picking up litter around the village. Famously, he regularly used a golf club to put dog mess into the moat.
John Mendelssohn had a passionate interest in music and technology. He ran a website about Nunney long before Visit Nunney was set up. Together with Noelle, he organised annual parties for children in the village as well as regular Macmillan Coffee mornings and drinks parties to introduce ‘newcomers’ to other villagers.
His cremation will take place in private. A Thanksgiving Service to celebrate John’s life will be held at a later date.
Our thoughts are with Noelle and the family.
