A lottery-style draw to find the title sponsor of an international horse trails has been hailed a huge success by organisers after dp+PAUL Chartered Building Surveyors of Wells was announced the winner on Wednesday April 24).
Nunney Horse Trials introduced the lottery earlier this year to raise sponsorship for the event which takes place at Southfield House near Frome on 14-16 June.
Major Simon Firbank, an independent adjudicator, announced the winner at Bourton village Hall after he drew them from the dozens of businesses and individuals who had bought tickets.
Other winners are Saturday’s new sponsor RM Penny (Plant Hire) Ltd of Ston Easton and Mendip Fire Places (Bath) of Monckton Combe which will be the sponsor for Friday.
James Paul of dp+PAUL said: “We are really thrilled to have won the title sponsorship lottery and to have our firm’s name as the Title Sponsor of the prestigious Nunney International Horse Trials.
“We are delighted to be supporting this event and its new approach to raising sponsorship. We wish all the competitors a successful competition.
“As a well-established business we have been involved with many equestrian and rural building projects in the Mendip Area and are pleased to be able to put something back into the equestrian community.
“We can think of no better way of doing this and look forward to being present at Nunney.”
Sales of lottery tickets, which cost £100 each, went beyond the initial target, and now organisers hope to develop the idea further for next year’s event.
The event’s organiser John Colson said: “It has gone extremely well and has exceeded expectations. It is great that the winners are all local businesses and it augers well for the future that the lottery has enabled so many to get involved.”
The event takes place at Southfield House, the home of Mrs Angela Yeoman who said: “I’m really pleased. The response we have received since we announced the lottery has been exceptional.”
The competition takes place over three days and is expected to attract many stars from the sport of Eventing. As well as the thrill of watching cross country action, this year the show jumping will take place in the main arena in front of the magnificent house. Spectators can enjoy the showjumping while browsing an array of trade stands. There’s also a unique food corner, with vendors offering some of the best locally sourced food.
As at last year’s event, the Visit Nunney team will be present on all three days to promote Nunney to participants and visitors alike.
Entrance to the event starts at £10 per car for advance bookings. Details can be found by visiting www.nunneyhorsetrials.co.uk.
