Mendip District Council is introducing a faster householder planning service in a bid to cut application decision times.
In response to customer feedback calling for faster decisions on householder planning applications, Mendip District Council will be piloting a fast track system to assist local residents who wish to submit an application. This new system aims to deliver a decision in less than six weeks, unless the application needs to be referred to the ward member.
Mendip District Council is keen to work with planning agents to develop good householder planning proposals that can be approved quickly. To assist with this there is a free Thursday planning surgery held between 2pm and 4.30pm that allows agents to discuss their planning applications with the council before submission.
Since this new process is tailored for quick decision times it will not be possible to make changes to applications after they are submitted. Agents who believe their applications may need changes are advised to make use of the Thursday surgeries prior to submitting.
The council also provides a duty officer service aimed at providing members of the public with general planning advice. This service is available between 8.30am and 12 noon, Monday to Friday, except on public holidays and training days. To contact the duty officer please call 0300 303 8588 or drop in to the council offices at Cannards Grave Road, Shepton Mallet, BA4 5BT.
Tracy Aarons corporate manager for built environment, said: “In response to customer feedback, we are introducing a new, faster planning system which we hope will lead to quicker decisions on householder applications.”
“We believe this new approach will give customers the quick decisions they want and introduce a faster, more streamlined service for Mendip’s residents.”
This scheme will affect all householder planning applications from Monday 1 July.
