Driver, 42, dies on icy road

A 42-year-old driver from the Frome area died after his car overturned on the A361 near Nunney on Monday morning.

policeThe incident happened at approximately 7.50am on the A361 just west of Torr Works, Nunney. A Mazda MX5 was the only vehicle involved in the collision.

The car reportedly hit a bank and overturned. Road conditions were said to have been both muddy and icy at the time. The driver, from the Frome area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed closed in both directions between Nunney Catch and Doulting for several hours whilst recovery of the vehicle took place.

A second crash, involving three vehicles, took place on Tuesday between Merryfield Lane/Farrington Lane (Doulting) and Slait Hill (East Cranmore), leading to road closures for a second day from Nunney Catch towards the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the fatal incident on Monday and has not yet spoken to police, should contact Avon & Somerset Police on 101.
