Far from the Madding Crowd

Somerset Moviola and the Nunney Village Hall Committee present Far from the Madding Crowd, on Friday 9 October at Nunney village hall.

Far from the Madding CrowdFar from the Madding Crowd is a 2015 British film based on the novel by Thomas Hardy with a screenplay by David Nicholls and directed by Thomas Vinterberg. It stars Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Tom Sturridge and Michael Sheen.

The story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching willfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor.

This timeless story of Bathsheba’s choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love – as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance.

For those of you who remember Schlesinger’s 1960s version (a hard act to follow for sure!), we think you will find an enjoyable and contrasting interpretation.

Far from the Madding Crowd has a 12A rating. Films classified 12A and video works classified 12 contain material that is not generally suitable for children aged under 12. No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult.
