Film Night: Suffragette

Somerset Moviola, BFI Neighbourhood Cinema and the Nunney Village Hall Committee present Suffragette, on Friday 12 February at Nunney village hall.

suffragette-2015-movie-posterSuffragette is a 2015 British historical period drama directed by Sarah Gavron and written by Abi Morgan. The film stars Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson, Anne-Marie Duff, Ben Whishaw, and Meryl Streep.

It is the first film in history to be shot in the Houses of Parliament, done with the permission of MPs. It tells the story of the suffragette movement through the yes and experience of Maud Watts (Mulligan), a 24-year-old laundress who becomes involved through chance political engagement. This unlocks her anger – though at quite a price.

Carey Mulligan gives a brilliant, understated performance; not to be missed by anyone interested in our political history and the rights of women in society – so a must for men!

Suffragette has a 12A rating. The 12A requires an adult to accompany any child under 12 seeing a 12A film at the cinema. Adults planning to take a child under 12 to view a 12A film should consider whether the film is suitable for that child.

Suffragette is shown at Nunney Village Hall on Friday 12 February at 7.30pm. Door open at 7.00pm. Seats cannot be reserved, so please come early.

Tickets cost £5.00 in advance at the SPAR shop in Nunney or £6.00 on the door. A licensed bar and ice creams will be available.
