Mendip Rocks!

Mendip Rocks! is back with events that bring alive the geology of the Mendip Hills.

Mendip Rocks

Explore local quarries with expert guides during Mendip Rocks!

Events run from the end of September throughout the whole of October. They include a guided tour of Torr Works quarry near Nunney (Friday 3 October), Wells – A History in Stone (Monday 6 October), Great Elm (Sunday 12 October), Moons Hill and Whatley quarries (14 and 16 October) and many other events.

Step back in time and explore an amazing 420 million years of geology right under your feet. A wide range of events will reveal the ancient stories that have shaped a unique and very special landscape.

It’s a great chance to see some of Mendip’s best kept geological secrets with many events being held at sites that are not usually open to the general public.

There is something for everyone from family fun days to guided walks in working quarries for adults with some knowledge of geology.

Admission charges – Free unless otherwise stated but a donation of £3/adult, £1/child is welcome towards the Mendip Rocks! Project.

Booking – Events do not require booking unless otherwise stated.

Full programme of festival events is available on somersetwildlife.org/rocks.

Mendip Rocks! 2014 is supported by the Mendip Hills AONB Partnership in collaboration with the Somerset Earth Science Centre and Somerset Wildlife Trust.
