A short act of remembrance will take place in All Saints Church Nunney on Monday 31 July at 6pm for the life of Edward William Phillips of Nunney.

A short act of remembrance will take place in All Saints Church Nunney on Monday 31 July at 6pm for the life of Edward William Phillips of Nunney.

Edward Phillips is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial in Ieper, Belgium.

This act of remembrance is part of an ongoing series to commemorate the lives of local soldiers lost in the First World War.

Edward Phillips was born in Nunney. He was the son of Edward Phillips of Nunney Catch. He was employed by a Mr Read of Frome as a lorry driver before enlisting into the Army Service Corps in January 1917.

He was later transferred into the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Edward Phillips was killed in action on 31 July 1917, aged 29.

He left a widow and a daughter. Edward is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial in Ypres, Belgium.
