Rock Faces event

A dramatic projection of historical images of local quarries onto the quarry face will take place in Old Quarry Gardens on Saturday 4 October.

Rock Faces

Quarry workers at Holwell, near Nunney

Rock Faces is an outdoor event which is part of the Mendip Rocks! festival. Dramatic projections of historical images of local quarries onto the quarry face will include the local Holwell and Hillier Quarries as well as many other former quarries in the Frome area.

The evening will start with the call to order by Stephen Thomas blowing a Victorian blasting horn used by his great grandfather George Colman, who ran both Castle Hill Quarry and then the larger Holwell Quarry just outside the village.

The event is being organised with the Mendip Hills AONB team. This free event is organised as part of the Mendip Rocks! festival of walks and events taking place this month and throughout October.

Rock Faces takes place on Saturday 4 October from 6.30pm until 8.30pm. It’s free to attend, although you can make a donation to the Mendip Hills Fund.

Because the event takes place outdoors in October you are advised to bring a rug, brolly and chair. Hot refreshments are available.
