Somerset Live

Somerset Live is a 24/7 website covering news, entertainment and sport across Somerset and the wider region including Dorset and Wiltshire.

Somerset LiveSomerset Live’s journalists are committed to bringing you the latest breaking news, the best local events, information and live sports action.

Somerset Live is linked to a series of award-winning newspapers, including the Western Gazette, Blackmore Vale Magazine, Wells Journal, Shepton Mallet Journal, Cheddar Valley Gazette, Central Somerset Gazette, Frome Standard and Somerset Guardian – all with a rich history of bringing you the best of local life from the heart of the community.

The newspapers were previously owned by Northcliffe Media. In 2012, Local World acquired owners Northcliffe Media from Daily Mail and General Trust.

Trinity Mirror took control of Local World in late 2015 as part of a £220m deal. It is one of Britain’s biggest newspaper groups, publishing 240 regional papers as well as the national Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and People, and the Scottish Sunday Mail and Daily Record. Since purchasing Local World, it has gained 83 print publications.

In June 2016 the newspaper launched Somerset Live, a digital platform dedicated to providing news coverage, feature/human interest stories, entertainment and live blogs to readers across the South West of England and surrounding areas.

Somerset Live was created from the merger of the websites of the Central Somerset Gazette, Western Gazette, Cheddar Valley Gazette, Shepton Mallet Journal, Wells Journal, Frome Standard, Somerset Guardian and North Somerset Mercury.

The website of the Western Daily Press was incorporated into that of the Bristol Post, which has retained its name.

The website received an overhaul and a redesign in May 2017 to deliver a more user friendly experience, with improved features and interaction. The website’s editor is Emma Slee.

The website adapts itself to how you’re viewing it, so whether you’re on a PC, Mac or laptop, or using a mobile or tablet device, everything will fit onto your screen. The pictures have got bigger too.
