Spring clean for war memorial
Nunney’s war memorial in the churchyard of All Saints Church looks splendid in the spring sun once again after it was cleaned last week.
The Parish Council was contacted some time ago by Historic England to say that our memorial was not listed and they intended to list it.
There were also some names missing from the memorial of men from Nunney who died in the First World War. The Parish Council therefore decided to pay for the cleaning and restoration of the memorial and to have these names added.
Ken Lloyd, Chairman of Nunney Parish Council, told Visit Nunney, “We are not sure who owns the memorial but the Parish Council will undertake to keep it maintained.”
The church will not reopen in time for Easter Sunday, because the lime-washed new nave ceiling is taking longer than expected to dry. The Bishop of Bath and Wells will formally rededicate the church on Saturday 13 May at 6pm.
