Thrill Me – The Leopold and Loeb Story

Thrill Me – The Leopold and Loeb Story, the acclaimed musical starring Ellis Dackombe and Harry Downes, is coming to Frome.

Thrill Me - The Leopold and Loeb Story

Thrill Me – The Leopold and Loeb Story is an award winning musical with book, music, and lyrics by Stephen Dolginoff.

It is based on the true story of Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb, the so-called ‘thrill killers’ who murdered a young boy in 1924.

Told in flashbacks, beginning with a 1958 parole hearing, it examines the relationship between Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb – both wealthy, normal and intelligent Chicago students, about to commence training to become lawyers.

Thrill Me - The Leopold and Loeb StoryWe are taken on a journey of two young men, one who believed he was above the law – obsessed and fuelled by the philosophy of Nietzsche to the point he believed he was a ‘Superman’ beyond good and evil.

The other – a loner – became a willing accomplice, empowering Loeb in his crimes. Together, they both believed they had perpetrated the perfect murder – or was one more certain than the other?

Thrill Me – The Leopold and Loeb Story has been captivating audiences since 2003. It won the first Broadway Baby Bobby Award in 2014 as one of the most outstanding productions of that year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Nominated for multiple awards, this London Evening Standard and Time Out Critics Choice production of Thrill Me – The Leopold and Loeb Story is playing the Merlin Theatre in Frome for one night only.

Recent Arts Educational School graduates Ellis Dackombe and Harry Downes take on the roles of Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold respectively following their acclaimed run at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and performances in South Korea.

Ellis was, of course, for many years one of the stars as the Nunney Players as well as countless Frome productions.

Directed by Guy Retallack, Musical Direction by Kris Rawlinson, Design by James Turner and Lighting by Richard Williamson.

“Slick, sophisticated musical. Thrilling indeed.”
London Evening Standard

“Thrill Me – The Leopold and Loeb Story is definitely not for the squeamish, but, take it from me, there is no production currently running in the capital that is more intelligent, atmospheric and haunting than this.”
Sunday Telegraph

“Ellis Dackombe looks slick in his sharply cut suit. He menacingly portrays the disturbed Loeb in a cold and manipulative manner. Harry Downes demonstrates the weaknesses and vulnerability of Leopold yet hauntingly suggests that there is more going on his mind that might at first seem evident. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this remarkable work that is sure to satisfy those who seek the rare combination of a fine musical and intense drama. You will be thrilled.”
Broadway Baby

“The chemistry between these characters is perfect and I would be very surprised if these young actors didn’t gather quite a following. Go and see.”
Musical Theatre Review

“Thrill Me – The Leopold and Loeb Story is a dark and twisted tale that totally captured the audience, it’s no wonder that many are returning to see it again. This is a very strong production that leaves its mark on you long after its over”
Broadway World
