How would you improve the Market Place?

The old bus shelter in the Market Place has been demolished. What would you like to see take its place?

Market Place Nunney

The bus shelter (left) before it was knocked down (obviously)

The bus shelter was given to the Nunney community decades ago by Mr & Mrs Rob Walker.

After it fell into disrepair, Nunney Parish Council reached agreement with the Walkers’ son, Robbie Walker, to have it removed. It was finally demolished on Saturday 18 January.

But what – if anything – should take its place?

Statue

Leeds has this statue of the Black Prince; could Nunney have one of Sir John Delamere, the knight who built the castle?

The Parish Council is actively seeking your creative ideas for what to do with the space.

Because of its listed status the classic red telephone box cannot be moved. For obvious reasons, any suggestions need to respect the need for parking space – especially in front of the SPAR village shop.

Should the war memorial be moved here from the churchyard? Or the market cross that is currently by the duck flats?

Bandstand

The base of the existing bus shelter could be used to create a small band stand / bus shelter combo.

Should there be a small statue of Sir John Delamere (the man who built the castle) on horseback?

Or a tree or flower bed – perhaps created by leaving the bottom half of the existing bus shelter and filling it with soil?

Another suggestion already received is to use the base of the existing bus shelter to create a small bandstand that could be used for the Easter bonnet competition, Nunney Fayre and other events and could be decorated seasonally. Of course, it would also double as a bus shelter.
