Vote in the World Cup of Somerset
It’s Nunney Castle against the Wurzels in the World Cup of Somerset, a fun popularity contest to mark Somerset Day 2018.

The Wurzels
What’s the best thing about Somerset? Cider or Cheddar cheese? The Wurzels or Wells Cathedral? You decide.
Somerset Day was launched in 2015 with the mission to make it a day set aside to celebrate all that’s great about our county.
Somerset Day is organised by Passion for Somerset, a not for profit community interest company, with help from sponsors and volunteer supporters throughout the county.
It’s Chairman, Nigel Muers-Raby, said: “This year is a watershed for celebrating the many wonderful things about Somerset. With the support of some of our County’s leading businesses and Somerset County Council, North Somerset Council and Bath & North East Somerset we have been able to spread the message far and wide, with the result that at the last count around 100 different events are thought to be taking place over the Somerset Day weekend.”
To mark Somerset Day on Friday 11 May, Somerset County Council has organised the World Cup of Somerset – a fun contest to identify the best thing about Somerset.
Entries were nominated by the public. A shortlist of 32 entries were drawn at random into 8 groups of 4 entries.
We’re delighted that Nunney Castle has made the shortlist, BUT… we’re up against the hugely popular band the Wurzels in our group. Tough, tough, tough.
I’ve got a brand new… World Cup of Somerset group. Where else do you get Wurzels Vrs steam trains? #WCoSomerset #SomersetDay
Group G:
Nunney Castle
The Wurzels
West Somerset Railway
Vivary Park

Hey @TheWurzels How do you like Nunney Castle’s brand new combine harvester? We think it puts us on a level playing field for the World Cup of Somerset on Friday 11 May #SomersetDay (bet you haven’t got a moat though) #WCoSomerset @SomersetCouncil pic.twitter.com/F1s9ztdzXZ
— Visit Nunney (@VisitNunney) May 6, 2018
Good effort @VisitNunney but I think we’ll edge ahead because our drummer is older than your castle, and he doesn’t need a moat as he has a lovely paddling pool! https://t.co/StCrwizZDM

Nunney Castle sums up the spirit of Somerset perfectly. It's not on top of a hill, but right among the people. Its knights are buried right next to local labourers. Modest, much-loved and truly one of Somerset's hidden gems. https://t.co/c1ykIf2Dlc #WCoSomerset #SomersetDay pic.twitter.com/KtPsVKBAKS
